One of the most frequently asked questions by nursing students in the Caribbean is where to find RENR past papers?
To my knowledge, nursing council doesn’t release any RENR past papers.
As you know, CXC has been given the role to administer the exam however there are still limited. One of these limitations is that CXC is also unable to release any past papers for RENR.
Traditionally, CXC has been known to release past papers for CSEC and CAPE subjects each year, which they still do up to this day. However, this is not the case when it comes to the Regional Examination for Nurse Registration.
This leaves many students desperately in search for RENR past papers, which is what likely brought you to this page. Now, are there RENR past papers out there?
The answer to that question is YES!
The problem is that these RENR past papers are dated back to the year 1997.
Remember that during this period, the exam consisted of four papers. Paper 1 and 2 were clinically focused while paper 3 and 4 were considered to be functional. Additionally, the exam format was structured in the following manner: Paper 1 and 3 required students to write care-plans and essays while paper 1 and 3 were all MCQs
Does it mean that these old past papers aren’t useful? By all means, if you happen to possess them then I encourage you to practice from them.
The growing concern which is quite unfortunate is that many students who happen to possess these papers don’t know how to effectively utilize them to their advantage. Many students also become too dependent on RENR past papers hoping for questions to come back.
1. Practice doing the papers as if you were under exam conditions. Time yourself, and ideally do it where there are no distractions.
2. It is important to note that these RENR past papers are only to be used as a guide. Do not try to memorize a question and answer but rather take time to understand the rationale.
3. Take a look at the topics which were covered and include those within your study list.
4. Lastly, be careful with what you see circulating out there as some of the answer keys are also wrong, so make sure to also do your own research. Don’t be lazy!!
Now, do I include old RENR past papers within my program? The answer to that is NO!
